The Best Breweries in PA: A Sudsy Poconos Adventure

November 3, 2019

Craft breweries are quickly becoming a common gathering place for couples in the midst of winter’s peak, especially for those who reside in the northern half of the United States.

While there isn’t an abundance of breweries in the Poconos, the few who have set up shop in hopes of serving frosty travelers a pint of microbeer have been met with wild success. You certainly won’t need a reason to leave Cove Pocono Resorts this winter. But we cannot blame all of you self-proclaimed beer aficionados out there if a frothy, roasty oatmeal stout at one of the top-rated breweries in PA doesn’t sound excessively enticing.

A Self-Guided Beer Journey: The Top 3 Breweries in PA

If you’ve ever taken a peek at a state-wide brewery map, you already know that dozens of taprooms are scattered throughout the Pocono Mountains. And, luckily for you and your sweetheart, several of our favorite breweries in PA are just a short drive from Cove Haven Resort, Pocono Palace Resort, and Paradise Stream Resort. A brief journey to an ultra-popular Pocono brewery is the perfect mid-day activity for those aiming to take a short break from the snow this winter.

1. Hopping Eagle Brewing Co

Hopping Eagle Brewing assuredly isn’t the oldest Lake Wallenpauck brewery, but my oh my is this brand new establishment starting to turn heads. The brewing team at Hopping Eagle is already making a name for themselves, thanks to a wide variety of hazy IPAs (including Don’t Poke the Bear and Peregrine NEIPA). Their merch is flying off of the shelves thanks to that ingenious logo, depicting a bald eagle with a bright-green hop for a torso atop an oar. But don’t forget about those eight glorious taps inside of their clean, sleek taproom.

2. Downriver Brewing Company

Downriver Brewing Company is the “new kid” on the block as they just opened their doors on November 2, 2019. It’s only been a few weeks, but downtown Stroudsburg’s very first craft brewery since 1937 is already garnering exceptional reviews from critics, locals, and Untappd’s online community. This team is just getting their collective feet wet, but great things are in store for the folks at Downriver. With an early emphasis on Berliner Weisses, milkshake IPAs, and imperial stouts, we’re equally excited to see what they come up with next.

3. Wallenpaupack Brewing Co.

Wallenpaupack Brewing operates at a much higher frequency than most breweries in PA, including Hopping Eagle and Downriver. This 14,000-square-foot, full production brewery sits atop the remains of a defunct Arby’s along U.S. 6, just seven miles from Cove Haven Resort. One of the many perks of stepping into this polished, modern taproom is that they also offer bar grub, such as grass-fed burgers, house-smoked prime rib (in honor of Arby’s), and even taco “flights.” The Hawley Hefeweizen, Nut Brown Ale, and Lake Haze #8 are three beers to try this winter.

A Tantalizing Couples Retreat in PA

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re rapidly approaching the most romantic season of the year: the holiday season. And there’s nothing more romantic than building a snowman underneath falling snow, snuggling around a fireplace with hot cocoa in-hand, and, of course, a soak inside a  seven-foot-tall Champagne Tower Whirlpool. After a brief visit to one of these top-ranked breweries in PA, enjoy fine dining, live entertainment, and some long-overdue alone time your private suite. If you’re still curious about other local breweries “near me,” give our team a call today at 1-800-432-9932.
