Tips for Planning Your First Vacation as a Couple

Tips for Planning Your First Vacation as a Couple

Planning a trip is exciting, but when you’re planning your first vacation as a couple, it can feel a little stressful. You want to plan a vacation that will bring you closer to your partner and make memories that will last a lifetime, but where do you even start?

Let the team at Cove Pocono Resorts help. We have a long history of assisting couples with romantic getaways, and we would love to help you plan your first couple’s vacation. Continue reading for our guide on planning your first vacation as a couple.

Step 1. Picking a Destination

The first part of the planning process is picking a destination for your vacation. Choosing a destination can be impacted by several factors. How long is your trip? Are you looking for somewhere close or far? How much do you want to spend? What do you want to do on your adventure?

Answering those questions will help you whittle down your list of possible locations. Next, consider how romantic the destinations are. For your first vacation as a couple, we recommend picking a highly romantic vacation spot. After all, this is a trip to remember forever, and if the goal is to bring you and your partner closer together, romance needs to play a role.

Step 2. Finding the Perfect Accommodations

After picking out the destination for your romantic getaway, it’s time to find suitable accommodations. Where you stay can make or break your trip; this is your home base, and somewhere you’ll be spending a considerable amount of time.

Romantic resorts can help set the mood for your first vacation as a couple. At Cove Pocono Resorts, we designed our rooms and suites with romance in mind; every little detail is deliberate in creating an ultra intimate experience. Resorts with all-inclusive packages can be ideal as well because you won’t have to worry about surprise fees, and you don’t have to worry about planning out your meals.

Step 3. Laying Out an Activities Plan

Choosing your destination and selecting the perfect accommodations are the most challenging parts of planning a vacation. Now onto the fun stuff: planning out what you’re going to do. If you’re more of a go-with-the-flow kind of person, you can skip this step, but we recommend you at least look into the activities and attractions you might be interested in enjoying to avoid future stress and headaches.

If you plan on taking a tour or going on an excursion, we suggest making reservations in advance; many companies don’t allow day-of walk-ins. However, we urge you not to jampack your schedule too full of activities. Overscheduling can cause stress and friction, which should be avoided on your first vacation as a couple.

Plan a Romantic Trip That You’ll Always Remember

Planning your first vacation as a couple is an important step for your relationship, and we hope our planning guide sets you up for a magical experience you’ll never forget. If you’re still looking for a place to vacation, consider staying with us! Mt. Pocono, PA: Home to Couples-Only Paradise Stream Resort

Paradise Stream remains the pride of Mt. Pocono, a quiet, undeniably scenic mountain town between the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and The Electric City. Throughout all four beautifully dissimilar seasons, Paradise Stream entices couples from all across the Northeast in need of a well-deserved romantic escape. Mt. Pocono itself, however, is a uniquely pristine slice of the Pocono Mountains, with its many preserves, quaint cafes, and surrounding attractions.

Mt. Pocono: A Quintessential Mountain Town

The town of Mt. Pocono has become synonymous with romance, mainly because of Paradise Stream Resort’s 143-suite castle of seduction. Mt. Pocono is a mere 90-mile scenic drive from the Manhattan Bridge, the gateway to the country’s most dazzling city. That being said, even Manhattanites need a brief respite from the city’s hustle and racket. Sleepy Mt. Pocono is an idyllic spot to enjoy lunch while mingling with locals and reminiscing of a long-overdue couples retreat.

After a mid-day meal at charming Fork Street Bistro, lively Mi Casa, or authentic Bella Villa Pizza, visit a nearby brewery or distillery. Pocono Brewing Company, Silverback Distillery, and Barley Creek Brewing Company are all a short drive from our adult-only resort. And don’t forget about the outdoors: Bushkill Falls, Tobyhanna State Park, Big Pocono State Park, Mountain Creek Riding Stables, and the Delaware Water Gap all provide a beautiful backdrop to a playful afternoon stroll with your partner.

Paradise Stream: A Heavenly Honeymoon Resort

But, of course, Paradise Stream Resort’s guests don’t have to wander off-site to bask in the sheer beauty of the sprawling Pocono Mountains. All-inclusive packages include a bevy of complimentary outdoor activities, such as bicycling, tennis, archery, hiking, and fishing. During the warmest summer afternoons, couples gravitate toward our outdoor swimming pool with a Mango Tequila Sunrise cocktail in hand from TanLines Bar. Packages also include two meals daily, nightly live entertainment, concierge services from our CXOs (Chief eXcitement Officers), and the most tantalizing fantasy suites near New York City.

The World’s Largest Treasure Hunt: Geocaching near Cove Haven

This “sport” has spread like wildfire across North America, including right here in the sprawling Pocono Mountains. Naturally, the mountains are an idyllic place to hide a treasure trove of goodies, trinkets, and heartfelt keepsakes. In fact, here at Cove Pocono Resorts, many clever lovers utilize the art of a geocache proposal, in which the cache itself is a diamond ring.

Geocaching 101

Without getting overly technical, geocaching is, in broad terms, a 21st-century GPS-enabled treasure hunt where outdoor enthusiasts seek (or hide) a “cache” using nothing but a smartphone, cryptic directions, and years of intuition. There are several apps on the market, but Geocaching.com is the obvious choice. Instead of blindly searching for the “best places to go geocaching near me,” simply enter the app and get started. You’ll be happy to know that there are hundreds of caches near all three of our historic couples retreats. For those that have never geocached with your partner, this hobby can be quite playful, romantic, and flirtatious.

3 Adult-Only Resorts, Hundreds of Possibilities

We won’t spend too much time on the details. Instead, we’ll leave the exploration to you and your partner. After all, the “hunt” is the best part of each adventure. It’s worth noting that Cove Pocono Resorts provides a bevy of complimentary on-site activities, such as bicycling, paintball, and kayaking. There are also several nearby diversions, including mountaintop ziplining, craft distilleries, and horseback riding. Oh, and a tantalizing Champagne Tower Suite is waiting for you at the end of each day.

Many caches lie near Pennsylvania Route 940 within minutes of Paradise Stream Resort. Nearby Kurmes Preserve is said to have a handful of challenging caches and countless acres of sheer tranquility. As you might expect, Cove Haven Resort is a short distance from “The Tunnel of Love,” a small cache near the property’s entrance. Countless hidden gems lie on both ends of Lake Wallenpaupack, including “The Forgotten Woods” and “Pebble Beach Peek-a-boo.” Pocono Palace Resort, the pride of East Stroudsberg, is a short drive from Mt. Nebo Park, home to nearly a dozen caches. We recommend purchasing (or creating) a “geocaching toolbox” if you aim to spend several hours in the dense Pocono wilderness.

Romantic Weekend Getaways in Pennsylvania

There’s never been a more desirable time in history to escape New York City en route to the “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” But, of course, you don’t have to be a honeymooner to plan an extended weekend getaway to Cove Pocono Resorts. Spend your days sunbathing, swimming, sipping cocktails, and paddling before indulging in steak, live music, and a late-night fireside snuggle in your private suite. Summer Reading Challenge: 10 Thrilling Beach Reads

When Oprah Magazine, Parade, and Good Housekeeping release their annual lists of summer beach reads, people instantly take notice. This year, all eyes are glued to 28 Summers, The Vanishing Half, and Friends and Strangers (among countless others).  For most, a beach read should be formulaic, twisted, intelligible, and, of course, unpredictable. An idyllic location to finish a novel beside your partner is right here at Pocono Palace Resort’s exclusive Echo Lake, a sandy paradise with little-to-no foot traffic. So, throw a towel down on the sand, coat yourself in sunscreen, and strap in for an emotional thrill-ride because this summer reading challenge will be a memorable one.

A Fun Reading Challenge: 10 Gripping Beach Reads

This staff-curated summer reading challenge is sure to provide you and your loved one with enough twists and turns for the next decade. For those in need of a useful resource on potential reads, look no further than Goodread’s annual Choice Awards. A handful of award-winning novels that narrowly missed this summer reading challenge include The Woman in the Window, Never Let Me Go, The Silent Patient, and My Sister, the Serial Killer. In the end, these 10 books set a new bar for the mystery genre, thanks to the likes of Gillian Flynn, Blake Crouch, and up-and-comer Jane Harper.

1. Before the Fall, Noah Hawley

It’s easy to empathize with Scott Burroughs, Hawley’s lonely plane crash survivor. Very rarely does raw human emotion leap off the page quite like it does in Before the Fall.

2. Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn

Flynn’s crowning achievement, Gone Girl, is a masterstroke built on layers of mischief. Amy Dunne remains one of the decades most beloved heroines.

3. Annihilation, Jeff VanderMeer

VanderMeer’s first glimpse into the fictional “Southern Reach” will stick with you long after the final line. Annihilation is equal parts science fiction, psychological thriller, and family drama—a true game-changer.

4. Pines, Blake Crouch

Pines, much like Annihilation, is the first book of a stirring trilogy. Crouch’s Abandon and Desert Places are undeniably enthralling, but the Wayward Pines trio ranks among the most mindblowing collective works to date.

5. The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins

In many ways, Flynn’s Gone Girl laid the groundwork for Hawkins’ Girl on the Train. This dreamy, hard-hitting novel doesn’t hold back. Rachel’s journey is bleak, poignant, and perplexing, to say the least.

6. The Dry, Jane Harper

Harper’s breathtaking debut is a vivid examination of a quiet (or so they thought) Australian farming community riddled with secrets.
