The 3 Best Wineries in the Poconos

September 27, 2019

There are several wine meccas in the United States, including Napa Valley, the Finger Lakes, and even Texas Hill Country, but none of them can top the awe-inspiring beauty of the Pocono Mountains.

In fact, the Poconos Mountains see just as much foot traffic and interest as those faraway destinations because of our region’s proximity to the New York Metropolitan Area’s 20 million residents. There are dozens of award-winning wineries in the Poconos, many of which offer vineyard tours, special events, and inexpensive wine flights.

The Best Wineries in the Poconos near Cove Haven

Many couples plan a self-guided, mid-day trip along the “Pocono wine trail” during their stay here at Cove Pocono Resorts. With so many wineries in the Poconos, finding the best vineyards in the area can be challenging. Luckily for you and your sweetheart, we’ve pieced together the three premier wineries in PA based on customer feedback and personal experience. The breathtaking Pocono wine trail is perhaps the closest thing that compares to a trip to Southern Europe.

Mountain View Vineyard – Stroudsburg

Narrowing this list down to three was taxing, but Mountain View Vineyard was always a no-brainer. It’s easy to fall in love with their countryside landscape, mountain-view tasting room, and personalized service. This 100-acre farm is entirely sustainable—and they don’t just make wine! After savoring a semi-dry Chambourcin and Cayuga blend, we recommend taste-testing their distilled spirits and craft beer. Don’t forget to join one of their Pocono wine tours, which begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Must-try: Bliss, Wild Mountain Rose, and Mountain Goat Red.

Eagles Rest Cellars – Stroudsburg

Eagles Rest Cellars remains one of the most underrated wineries in the Poconos, but that shouldn’t stop you from taking a trip to this 900-vine, 4,500-Christmas tree farm. They provide vineyard tours on the weekends, but the tasting room is open four days a week. Even if a vineyard tour isn’t available, we still highly recommend taking a stroll on their farm—the misty Pocono Mountains tower over the land. For just $5 per person, you can enjoy a flight of five wines. You’ll also receive a glass to take home. The Pocono wine tours, meanwhile, cost just $8. Must-try: Taxi, Cruise, and Attitude.

Sorrenti Cherry Valley Vineyard – Saylorsburg

Sorrenti Cherry Valley Vineyard is one of the oldest wineries in the Poconos as it opened for business back in 1981. Until the early 1980s, many believed that growing grapes in this climate was impossible. But Dominic Sorrenti proved them wrong as his lifelong dream of owning a vineyard became a reality. You won’t find many vineyards in PA with a more gripping backstory. Sorrenti hosts many events, such as grape stomps, paint ‘n sips, and the annual Sangria Festival. Must-try: Blackberry Noir, Raspberry Spumante, and Pinot Grigio.
